Understanding Your Mate’s Personality

Our relationships will improve dramatically when we learn to value and appreciate one another’s uniqueness.

This eye-opening series addresses the God-created differences in people. And, using colorful examples, I share how two very different people can actually learn to get along well through respect, value, understanding, and honor for one another.

We are often attracted to those who are different from us because, simply stated, we need each other. Many of us think that everybody should be just the way we are and do things the way we do them. Proverbs 16:2 says, All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits (the thoughts and intents of the heart).

I used to think I was right about everything. I spent a lot of time trying to change everyone around me. God finally made it clear to me that people can’t change people—changing people is His job. All of us could use some change and improvement, but we can honor one another by giving people the freedom to be who they are. We can even learn to disagree agreeably!

Learn helpful tips on proper communication—how you say things is a critically important ingredient for your healthy relation­ships. Body language and voice tone play an important role in good communication skills. It can actually be more important than what you say!

It also helps to understand that men normally respond out of logic, and women tend to respond more out of emotion to the various situations that confront us on a daily basis. This is the way God created us. It does not make one right and the other wrong!
